The base for Status red wine is two grape varieties: Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%). Manual harvest is done when the grapes are fully ripe and the tannins in the grape skins and pips are ripe. Maceration (skin contact) lasts for at least 45 days, in the best vintages up to 60 days. The wine is then aged for 30 months in large barrels (1,500 l) and small (225 l) barrique barrels made from French oak.
